Academic Programs

Assessment Plans

In concert with Tulane University's institutional effectiveness processes, each administrative, support unit and academic program participates in the unit assessment process. Tulane uses a common process, template, and timeline for reporting assessment activities. The academic unit assessment process is an annual cycle through which academic programs review their mission and develop, implement, and report their expected learning outcomes, assessment measures, results, and planned improvements based on the results.

Tulane's unit assessment process includes a review of submitted plans by the Office of Assessment & Institutional Research using a common rubric. This feedback is compiled and provided to the program to offer guidance and recommendations on how to improve their assessment efforts and ensures that the assessment activities are consistent with best practices.

Program Assessment Plans are a critical component of Tulane’s commitment to continuous improvement and student success. All credentialed programs, certificates and degree programs, are required to maintain a current and comprehensive assessment plan. These plans help ensure that student learning outcomes are clearly defined, systematically measured, and used to inform meaningful program enhancements. Department or Curriculum Chairs are encouraged to submit plans by June 15 for priority review, allowing time for feedback and refinement ahead of the final August 15 deadline. Timely submission is especially important as we prepare for upcoming SACSCOC accreditation processes. As part of this effort, the University will submit Program Assessment Plans for the academic years 2024–2025, 2025–2026, and 2026–2027. Your careful attention to these plans not only supports accreditation requirements but also strengthens the quality, effectiveness, and accountability of our academic programs.
