Assessment

 

Assessment is the systematic, ongoing process of developing goals and intentional gathering, reviewing, and use of data for the purpose of making meaningful improvements to support student learning, co-curricular programming, and/or improvement of institutional processes. It is the process by which Tulane ultimately measures achievement of its mission to “create, communicate and conserve knowledge in order to enrich the capacity of individuals, organizations and communities to think, to learn and to act and lead with integrity and wisdom.”

Academic Programs


All academic programs follow an annual process for assessing achievement of the student learning outcome goals set by the program faculty and determining any adjustments to curriculum or teaching/learning practices to drive future improvement. To document that process in accordance with Tulane’s institutional accreditor, SACSCOC, each academic program submits an assessment plan to be reviewed by OAIR and the Senate Committee on Assessment.

Administrative Units


All administrative offices—including operational, academic and student support service, research, and public service program units—follow an annual process for assessing achievement of the unit’s set objectives for its processes and functions and determining any necessary changes to support future advancement. In accordance with Tulane’s institutional accreditor, SACSCOC, plans are submitted to OAIR to document this ongoing process for improvement.
